New York times



Thanks to its efforts, hospital walls are slowly becoming transparent,

like the lenses in a tough guy's Polaroid sunglasses -- or like the emperor's new clothes. Revealed are wrinkles and imperfections no one ever saw before, or ever wanted to see. But this is an "emperor's new clothes" fable with a twist: after unmasking and retooling the workings of our health care system, the quality folks are then planning to keep them on display, uncovered, just to make sure the emperor never behaves so foolishly again.
